Go Fly! Mac OS
Mac game publisher MacSoft today announced that Fly! II has gone gold master. It’s a realistic civilian flight simulator, and the sequel to a game released in 1999. Fly! II shouldn’t be confused with Fly! 2K, an earlier release that combined the original game with some add-ons — this is a whole new game.
This simulation puts players in the cockpits of several different real-life propeller-driven and jet-powered aircraft, and even rotorcraft. Aircraft modeled in Fly! II include the Pilatus PC-12 jetprop, Bell 407 Helicopter, Kodiak twin engine, Sahara single engine, Aurora B200 and Barracuda B200 twin-engine turbo-prop, Flyhawk 172 singe engine prop and Peregrine 800TR business jet.

The title features photorealistic cockpits with working switches, totally customizable weather effects, adjustable time of day, and customizable clouds varying by density, layer and altitude. Visibility ranges have been increased up to 60 miles — three times more than in Fly! 2K — providing even greater realism. If you’re a beginner and you’re interested in learning to fly by Visual Flight Rules (VFR) and Instrument Flight Rules (IFR), Fly! II can help with built-in aids and U.S. sectional charts.

MacSoft said that the Mac edition of Fly! II also features 72 extra maps, six additional aircraft and terra scenery including New York not included with the PC version.
Fly! II was developed by Terminal Reality Inc., which has previous brought the original Fly!, Fly! 2K, and the off-road racing simulator 4×4 Evo to the Macintosh platform. It appeared as if Fly! II would originally come to the Mac courtesy of Gathering of Developers. In May, MacSoft’s parent company Infogrames announced a deal with Gathering’s parent company Take Two Interactive Software to publish a series of Mac games under the MacSoft label instead. Fly! II was on the list, along with Myth III: The Wolf Age, Tropico, Max Payne and others. That relationship has already borne fruit — in July, MacSoft shipped Tropico, the first game to be released as part of the Infogrames/Take Two licensing deal.
