Putt-Putt Goes to the Moon (after a bizarre accident involving his dog named Pep, a butterfly, and apparently rocket-grade fireworks) ... but he comes back, complete with the requisite 'new friend' who is immediately reduced to occasional cameo appearances. At least he got it better off than Fatty Bear.

The Mac OS X version of the game was published by Feral Interactive and released on March 29, 2012. With the inspiration of the Xerox Star, Apple launched Mac OS 1.0 and placed the Window Commands/Actions to the Left, since Xerox too had most of their primary controls on the left. However, there hasn't been a pure reason as to why where they placed on the left since no one really cared about UX back then, and it was placed in that place for. Act I Benjamin Franklin Pinkerton, a young U.S. Navy lieutenant, has arranged with Goro, a marriage broker, to acquire a fifteen-year-old Japanese bride, Cio-Cio-San (Madama Butterfly). Pinkerton takes a 999-year lease on a home overlooking Nagasaki harbor; this lease, as well as his marriage, can conveniently be canceled on a month's notice. The Secret Is in the Switches. Input Club currently sells four keyboards: the Infinity ErgoDox Kit, the Infinity 60% kit, the WhiteFox 65%, and the new K-Type 60%.The percentage refers to the size compared to a full-sized keyboard: The 65% keyboards include arrow and navigational keys but no number pad, while the 60% ones have neither set of keys.

Music

All Versions

Lieutenant Butterfly (prototype) Mac Os X

The tracks and their names are from the 3DO version, but equivalent data for these exists in all releases.

NameFileNotes
PUTTM03Instrumental version of the title music.
PUTTM11Seems too short to be one of the main moon themes; possibly had some specialized use?
PUTTM26Variation on a theme used in several other tracks.
PUTTM31Probably meant to be moon surface music.
PUTTM32Same as above.
PUTTM35Slower, melody-less version of the Man in the Moon's theme.
PUTTM36Plays when Putt-Putt gets blasted into space. The cutscene is only about 30 seconds long, so the last bit is never heard.

DOS

Mac

This track exists only in the DOS version (which doesn't use external sound files, so there's no associated filename).

FileNotes
A strange mashup of the outer space music and one of the moon themes. The official soundtrack titles the track 'Land (Unused)' and places it directly after the outer space music and before the first song heard on the moon, suggesting it was intended for the cutscene in which Putt-Putt touches down on the moon surface.

3DO

These tracks are only in the Game Boy version ... okay, maybe not.

NameFileNotes
PUTTM38.DMU.no-voiceA higher-pitched, instrumental version of the title music with the intro cut out. The actual title music file is just 'PUTTM38.DMU'; this file and the next one are the only ones with extra extensions. It's not referenced by the music-playing scripts, so the game can't even try to play it.
PUTTM38.DMU.with1The regular title music, but with the first couple of measures cut out. Like the above, it's not referenced by the game.

Lieutenant Butterfly (prototype) Mac Os 8

This version has a few other oddities with its music files: the file numbering skips tracks 7, 9, 12, 14, 16, 22, 30, and 37, and the game's song file list contains an entry for 'PUTTM37.DMU', even though no such file exists.

Dialogue

FileCharacterSubtitles
Radioa criminal suit was filed against Mr. Firebird.
He is accused of purposeful wrong-doing and criminal neglect.
It is believed that Mr. Firebird's negligence
caused Putt-Putt's unfortunate accident earlier today.

These lines for the newscaster on the radio aren't used for obvious reasons. Probably the first of the series' many developer in-jokes, which would come to full fruition in the sequel.

To do:
Replace with proper sound rips

Debug Output

Almost all SCUMM-based Humongous games contain debug console output for various game bits and bobs (starting and stopping music, values of important variables, etc.). These aren't normally displayed; the simplest way to view them is to run the game in ScummVM and set its debug level to 0 or higher.

Error Handler

The invalid conversation handler from Putt-Putt Joins the Parade carried over to this game. The easiest way to trigger it is by forcing script 11 to run in ScummVM's debugger.
